Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?
I am Dr. Ankur Sharma, currently in the final year of my MBBS (Batch 2019) from one of the top five government medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. My journey began with a solid foundation in Delhi under the CBSE curriculum, where I developed a passion for biology and medicine. I scored an impressive 609/720 in NEET, with a near-perfect score of 355/360 in Biology, and this fueled my ambition to pursue medicine. Alongside my MBBS, I've also been teaching for the past three years, blending my love for learning and sharing knowledge.
What or who motivated you to choose teaching, and why?
Teaching has always been close to my heart because of the profound impact my mentors had on my life. During my own academic journey, I realized the crucial role that teachers play in shaping not just careers but also the confidence and resilience of students. This inspired me to step into teaching and contribute to providing quality education. I believe that a good mentor can transform a student's life, and I aspire to play that role for as many students as possible.
How does your work help society?
As a part of the EdTech sector, I am privileged to contribute to shaping the future of our nation by empowering students with knowledge and confidence. Education is the cornerstone of a progressive society, and quality education, in particular, is vital for both personal and national growth. By making learning accessible, engaging, and impactful, I aim to create a ripple effect that benefits not just individuals but society as a whole.
If you had to think of a role model for your work, who would it be and why?
My role models are my parents and my mentors, who have been pillars of strength and guidance throughout my life. Their unwavering support, belief in me, and ability to guide me through challenges have been instrumental in shaping my journey. They inspire me to be a source of support and encouragement for others, just as they have been for me.
Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.
Outside of teaching, I am also passionate about coding. I've gained proficiency in languages like Python and Java, which allow me to explore my creative and analytical side. In addition, I enjoy expressing my thoughts through poetry and find solace in listening to good music, which helps me recharge and stay inspired.
Do you have an anecdote to share about your student or professional life?
Yes, I have had many memorable experiences with my students, but one incident stands out. I once had a student who was exceptionally bright but struggled with underconfidence and anxiety. His habit of overthinking and self-doubt made it difficult for him to focus in class. Recognizing this, I tailored my teaching approach to make the class more engaging and relatable. I emphasized the importance of embracing mistakes as stepping stones and focused on boosting his confidence. Together, we worked not just on academics but also on building his self-belief. Eventually, he overcame his hurdles and cracked his exams successfully. This experience reaffirmed my belief in the transformative power of personalized teaching and mentorship.
