More About Me
Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?
I teach guitar and Indian classical (vocals). Well, in the childhood days my grandmother (maternal side) used to sing and play many instruments. I always loved listening to her songs and compositions. Her music sense fascinates me all the time. Soon she realised my inclination towards music especially in singing and started to encourage me. Since then I found my keen interest in music.
What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?
Well the person who got me into teaching line is my best friend's mother. Post 12th boards exams, I was approached by her to teach 9th & 10th grade along side. From then I found a newly developed confidence in teaching sector. As a matter of fact "Knowledge is meant to spread". Therefore, I thought maybe I could teach people whatever I have learnt in these past years, guiding them and uprooting their musical talents.
How does your work help society?
There was a time when music was considered as an art of divinity. Deep meaning, full lyrics and soothing sounds together creating a rollercoaster ride of emotions. It was more like a treat to ears, concluding a blissful experience. Most of all, people held patience to understand and feel music. But now-a-days, the essence is slowly fading away. Apparently people have forgotten the true meaning of real music. As a musician myself, this concerns me. Thus, I want to bring back that impression of music which was once embedded in our minds. By nurturing an artist soul within people, especially among new generations who has never encountered the real music. Good music creates a healthy mind and it results in positive environment and productivity which I think is highly needed in this tough depressive era.
If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?
Honestly, there is no specific role model but yeah I do grasp inspirations from people and surroundings itself. Whether it's a child or a poor person or some random place or whatever it is, if it's inspiring enough, I would be much obliged.
Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.
Besides music I don't have much hobbies as you can see music is itself a hobby for many of us. But for me, it's a passion and profession. Well, in my spare time, I like to watch anime and enjoy traveling.
Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?
Last year, I had this one student who was under-confident and not good at singing although he always had a deep interest in music since his childhood. He also wanted to pursue a career in music but was unable to continue due to some situations and ended up doing a job. However, his love for music never died and he still finds music intriguing just like his old days. So he asked me to tutor him. In the beginning, he was struggling with tones and voice. Despite of all struggle he worked consistently hard and gradually his hardwork started to pay off. As a result his voice became more smoother and melodious. At present, he has gained confidence enough to record a full fledged Bollywood song. Well I'd like to mention that watching your student's progress is one of the best feeling I've experienced in the profession and yet inspiring at the same time.
