More About Me
Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?
I've always loved languages, communication, and teaching. I'm a certified linguist and a translator. Apart from my native Russian, I speak two other languages - English and Portuguese. I started my teaching career at an international university in 2013, where I devoted 7 years to teaching Russian to students from different parts of the world. Over these years, I completely immersed myself in the profession, refining my skills, and gaining invaluable practical experience. For the past few years, I have been managing my own private Russian course for foreigners.
What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?
The motivation behind my choice to teach is quite natural for me; it's something I just knew I wanted to do. The desire to teach and share my knowledge simply felt inherent and instinctive. However, while the desire was natural, reaching the point where I am today required continuous work and study.
How does your work help society?
Globally, my work as a language teacher contributes to the enrichment of society by promoting cultural exchange and communication. On a local level, at the university, I helped hundreds of foreign students adapt to life in Russia from scratch as they arrived with zero knowledge of Russian. In my private course, I assist individuals with specific goals, such as traveling, working, or communicating with their Russian partners, helping each of them to achieve their personal and important goals.
If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?
It would be educators who are not just teachers but facilitators of growth. I admire those who inspire a love for learning, foster cultural understanding, and contribute to the personal and professional development of their students. Their dedication to making a positive impact goes beyond the classroom, and it aligns with my own aspirations as an educator.
Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.
I like dancing and travelling. Fortunately, I've had the opportunity to visit many places, which has broadened my perspective. I also love nature and often capture its beauty through photography.
Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?
One day in the Russian classroom, students were practicing dialogues in pairs. The assignment was to create a dialogue and act it out. However, the atmosphere turned serious unexpectedly. There was a couple, and when the girlfriend asked her partner where he liked to spend his time, he answered without thinking, 'At the bar.' The girlfriend got upset and started arguing with him right there in the classroom, leaving all the other students bewildered. It was a funny situation but a bit awkward at the same time.:
