More About Me
Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?
I developed a passion for singing during my early teens, but my academic commitments hindered me from pursuing it further for two years. However, when I enrolled as an undergraduate student, I finally had some free time to explore music. Utilising this opportunity, I formed a band and performed at local venues and college festivals, which greatly boosted my confidence. Inspired to take the next step, I joined AR Rahman College in Chennai, where I experienced significant growth through a multitude of learning and performance opportunities.
What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?
An opportunity arose for me to teach music theory to my friends, and this particular experience had a profound impact on me. It made me realise that teaching others not only brings clarity to my own understanding but also provides a fresh perspective. As I engaged in the teaching process, I found that I was able to express music in a more profound and meaningful way. This incident became a significant source of motivation for me to become a better teacher, as I wanted to share the joy of music and inspire others through my teaching.
How does your work help society?
Imparting music to young children at an early age has its advantages, as it introduces them to the world of music and nurtures their musical abilities. Additionally, the qualities required to learn an art like music-patience, persistence, and creativity-are also crucial for achieving success in life. These shared qualities play a significant role in both musical development and personal growth, enabling individuals to navigate challenges, persevere in their pursuits, and approach life with innovation and adaptability.
If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?
My musical journey has been shaped by the influence of singers, composers, and music teachers. Their collective impact has molded me into who I am today, inspiring me to explore new possibilities in my own art. The guidance of music teachers and the unique talents of these individuals have shaped my musical identity and influenced my character. I carry their inspiration with me as I continue on my journey, grateful for their profound impact on my growth as a musician and as a person.
Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.
I am a person with diverse interests. Here are some of the things I enjoy:Watching mixed martial arts fights: I have a passion for observing the intensity and skill displayed in MMA bouts.Practicing yoga: Yoga is a regular part of my routine, allowing me to find balance, flexibility, and inner peace.Exploring health: I dedicate my free time to learning about various health-related topics, broadening my knowledge on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.Going to the gym: Fitness is important to me, and I make it a point to exercise and stay physically active by visiting the gym regularly.Crime thrillers: I find great entertainment in watching crime thrillers, as they keep me engaged and intrigued by the twists and suspenseful storytelling.
Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?
I had the opportunity to teach a group of students who initially had no background in music. These individuals lacked pitch sense and basic singing skills. However, after working with them consistently for 6 months to 1 year, I witnessed a remarkable transformation in their voices. These students approached their learning with dedication and a strong commitment. They embraced the process wholeheartedly and devoted themselves to regular practice. As a result, they gradually developed a sense of pitch, improved their vocal techniques, and gained confidence in their abilities. What was truly inspiring was their eagerness to share their progress with others. They utilised social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube to showcase their singing videos. By doing so, they not only took pride in their achievements but also motivated and influenced others through their journey of growth and development.
