I am a Certified Yoga Instructor rooted in a family tradition of Pranayama. I specialize in Ashtanga Yoga, based on the ancient teachings of Patanjali's Yogasutras.

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali define an asana as "Sthiram Sukham Asanam" — a posture that is both steady and comfortable. This timeless principle guides the way I teach and share yoga. In my classes, we integrate Asana (physical postures), Pranayama (breathwork), and Meditation, and a separate session with the powerful practice of Yoga Nidra (see below). Modern life often causes us to hold unconscious tension in the body and mind, limiting our natural ability to relax and move freely. Through a gentle, mindful approach, my sessions create space for the body to release this stored stress. We progress slowly and consciously, allowing your body to open up at its own pace. As you develop awareness of different areas, your body starts coming alive. There is no pressure to “perfect” a pose — instead, I encourage breath-led movement, deep presence, and consistent practice. Over time, you'll notice more flexibility, inner calm, and a deeper connection to yourself. Yoga, when practiced with awareness and compassion, becomes not just a physical discipline, but a journey toward wholeness. ASANA & PRANAYAMA CLASS (FOR BEGINNERS) DURATION: 1 HOUR An hour long class (for beginners): will comprise of warm-up asanas and movements like Katichakrasana; few rounds of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations); and a series of asanas and their variations in supine, prone, seating and standing position. The asanas will vary through the week so as to work on all body parts. Some of the asanas that we will learn are as follows: Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Spinal Twist), Sarvangasana, Dhanurasana (Bow Pose), Chakrasana (Wheel Pose), Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), Trikonasana (Triangle Pose), Veerasana (Warrior Pose), and Sheershasna (Head Stand). The asanas are followed by Pranayama (Breathing exercises); aN important part of Ashtanga Yoga and concluded with Shavasana, and Om chanting. __________________________________________________________________ YOGA NIDRA DURATION: (25-30 mins) Yoga Nidra, as taught by the Bihar School of Yoga, is a systematic method of guided relaxation and inner awareness, often described as "psychic sleep" or a state between waking and sleeping. Developed and formalized by Swami Satyananda Saraswati, it is one of the core practices in the Bihar School tradition. Yoga Nidra is a deep meditative state of consciousness where the body sleeps, but the mind remains awake and receptive. It goes beyond simple relaxation—it's a transformational technique aimed at removing deep-rooted tensions in the body, mind, and emotions. According to Swami Satyananda: “Yoga Nidra is a state of dynamic sleep. It is a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation while maintaining awareness at deeper levels of consciousness.” A typical session lasts 25–30 minutes. BENEFITS OF YOGA NIDRA: // Deep Physical Relaxation: Releases muscular, nervous, and endocrine tension. // Emotional Healing: Helps process trauma, anxiety, and stress. // Mental Clarity: Enhances focus, memory, and creativity. // Better Sleep: Reduces insomnia and improves sleep quality. // Behavioral Change: The Sankalpa works at the subconscious level to foster positive habits. // Spiritual Growth: Can lead to profound states of inner awareness and self-discovery. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRANAYAMA & MEDITATION [FOR BEGINNERS] DURATION: 40 MINUTES Pranayama, or as I like to call it the PhD of Yoga is a core practice in Ashtanga yoga, referring to the regulation of breath. The word is derived from Sanskrit: "Prana" = life force or vital energy "Ayama" = expansion, control, or regulation According to yogic philosophy, prana is more than breath — it's the subtle energy that flows through our body and sustains life. By controlling the breath through pranayama, we influence the flow of prana, balancing the body, mind, and emotions. BENEFITS OF PRANAYAMA \\ Reduces Stress & Anxiety – Calms the nervous system and lowers cortisol. \\ Improves Lung Capacity – Enhances respiratory health and oxygen intake. \\ Balances Emotions – Regulates mood, promotes emotional resilience. \\ Enhances Mental Clarity – Increases focus, alertness, and presence. \\ Promotes Detoxification – Expels toxins via the breath and improves circulation. \\ Prepares for Meditation – Calms the mind and deepens inward awareness. A Pranayama class will comprise of breathing techniques including: Deep breathing with Kumbhaka (retention), Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing), Kapalbhati, Brahmari, Bhastrika, and Seetkari followed by meditationeither in sitting or supine position.
